Is black pepper powder and green tea good for you?

Black pepper, also called king of spices, is a staple kitchen ingredient with several health benefits. Piperine, a key compound in pepper, enhances nutrient absorption and boasts antioxidant properties, effectively neutralizing harmful free radicals. By reducing oxidative stress, pepper consumption may lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases as per some reports.

When combined with other foods, pepper amplifies nutrient absorption, including vitamins A, C, B6, and essential minerals like selenium, iron, and calcium. Moreover, piperine complements the health benefits of catechins in green tea, which support gut health, skin health, brain function, and heart well-being, while preventing weight gain and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Dr Jangda explained that combining green tea with pepper offers excellent health benefits due to its bioactive compounds. Catechins in green tea have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, enhancing metabolism and aiding weight loss. Piperine, found in pepper, boosts nutrient absorption and the bioavailability of nutrients from various foods.

Piperine also supports respiratory health, reducing the occurrence of bronchitis, colds, coughs, sinus issues, fevers, asthma, and similar conditions. Dr Jangda even highlighted that piperine enhances cognitive health, memory, brain function, concentration, and mood. It prevents age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. Additionally, pepper’s anti-bacterial properties help combat certain bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

Catechins and piperine together improve blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity, reducing the risk of diabetes and glucose spikes from food.
